NAHU signed onto a coalition for affordable healthcare letter to the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Marilyn Tavenner regarding Part D. You may recall that last spring CMS offered a Part D regulation that would have gutted the Part D program as passed in 2003 under the Medicare Modernization Act (MMA). The new regulations would have also had negative implications for agent compensation, which NAHU addressed in a separate comment letter. At that time, NAHU signed onto a letter along with over 250 other organizations calling on CMS to withdraw the regulation. Under pressure from Congress, CMS withdrew the regulation, but left open the possibility of implementing the regulation in whole or in part at any time. This letter is intended to remind CMS that we remain vigilant and opposed to the possibility of regulations that would undo the MMA that NAHU strongly supported and that serves seniors and taxpayers well.
